Solutions for Patients with Stretch Marks
Straie, otherwise known as stretch marks, are caused by a variety of factors. Obesity, puberty, obesity, and muscle building, are among those on the top of this list.
Stretch marks are formed as the middle layer of the skin (dermis) is forced beyond its ability to maintain the shape and elasticity of the skin. During the process, fibers that connect skin cells usually break, which interrupts the production of collagen.
The disruption of collagen production is what results in the scarring that most people refer to as stretch marks. A variety of solutions are available for those who want to get rid of this type of skin flaw, as listed below:
• Topical application: this involves the use of creams, lotions, or diet and exercise techniques. The goal of these treatments is gradual restoration of the natural state of the skin. These are far less expensive than expensive medical procedures, but probably not always as effective.
• Laser treatment: This involves the process of removing effects affected skin areas. This usually involves a series of several sessions for maximum results. This procedure does not involve cutting of any kind.
• Cosmetic surgery: One of the number one problem areas is the lower abdomen. A tummy tuck procedure is used on this location quite often. Similar types of surgery are used on other problem areas, such as breasts, hips, thighs, or buttocks.
• Chemical peels: This involves the peeling of the top layer of skin using a chemical and sponge, cotton swab, or brush. The damage skin is removed and replaced by new skin cells. It is very effective but causes stinging or burning in some patients.
• Microdermabrasion: A gentle crystal spray is used during this procedure to exfoliate the top layer of skin. The result is similar to that of a chemical peel, only much milder. It is often preferred over the use of a chemical peel treatment and considered painless but effective.
• Blue light therapy: This is a process that is used by people that were resistant to ointment and medications. It is more gentle that other types of therapy and is often used in conjunction with photodynamic therapy. This procedure is FDA approved and involves no use of UV lights or lasers.
The above-mentioned solutions are usually provided by licensed dermatologists or certified cosmetic surgeons. However, some topical applications are used right at home without a medical prescription.
Beware though that when you try to purchase remedies to use at home for this reason that they are not all created equal. In fact, very little evidence supports the fact that solutions sold as stretch mark relief or removers actually work.
The ones that may have the most success in removal of this slightly embarrassing type of skin flaw is those with the following types of ingredients: collagen hormones, Centella asiatica extract, vitamin E, or any other hormone or vitamin that contributes to skin health.
Anyone who has any question about stretch marks removal should contact their doctor or a nurse. These professionals would be the best source of information. The next best resource(s) would probably be the Internet or library.
